Families and children

Family photos in Istanbul that keep the kids happy

A family session works best when it fits around nap times and snacks, not the other way round. Tell us your date and your children's ages, and we will find a photographer in Istanbul who suits you.

Children do not care about perfect light. They care about pigeons, ice cream and whether they are allowed to run. The most natural family photos come from giving them something to do: running across a lawn, watching seagulls from a ferry, climbing stone steps hand in hand. The aim is to show your family as it is right now.

We are a photography guide to Türkiye rather than a studio, so we do not photograph families in Istanbul ourselves. When you send a request, we look at which photographers we work with in the city are available and reply by email, usually within two working days. You then agree the plan with them directly.

How it works

Three simple steps

1Tell us who is comingFill in the request form with your date, the number of people and the children's ages. Mention a pushchair, grandparents or anyone who should not walk far.
2Meet your photographer by emailWe reply with a photographer we work with in Istanbul who is free on your date and at ease with children.
3Keep the plan short and easyAgree one location, or two close together, a start time that fits your children's routine and a backup for rain. A bench and a toilet nearby help more than another landmark.

Timing

When to plan it

With small children, the best time is whatever fits their day. Early mornings often work well: kids are fresh, the light is soft and popular places stay quiet until late morning. Late afternoon is also good in parks and by the water. Avoid the middle of a busy sightseeing day, when everyone is tired.

Spring is a favourite season, with tulips across the city's parks in April and comfortable temperatures. Autumn brings yellow and red leaves, gentler light and fewer visitors. Summer middays are hot, so plan for early or evening hours. In the colder months, scarves, coats and hats add colour and a cosy feel to the pictures.

Good to know

  • Keep it short: about an hour suits toddlers, a little longer suits older children.
  • Bring snacks, water and a small toy that can stay out of the shot.
  • Choose a colour palette rather than identical outfits.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as many streets are steep and uneven.
  • Tell the children it is a walk and a game, not a photo shoot.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long should a family session be?

Usually one to two hours. Toddlers tend to do best with about an hour, while older children can manage a longer walk with a break.

What if my child is shy or having a bad day?

That is normal, and a good family photographer expects it. They let children warm up and play first, then photograph what happens rather than forcing smiles.

Can grandparents or a larger group join?

Yes. Mention the group size in your request. Parks and waterfronts give more room than narrow old streets, which makes bigger groups easier to arrange.

Can we be photographed at mosques or palaces?

Exteriors and courtyards are possible with modest clothing and respect for worshippers. Professional photography inside palaces and some managed sites may need permission, so the photographer will advise what is realistic.

Does it cost anything to send a request?

The request form is free and with no obligation. Fees, the number of photos and delivery time are agreed with the photographer directly.
