For many couples the reason to visit Cappadocia is one picture: the two of you on a rooftop as balloons rise at sunrise. With a little planning it is achievable. The rest of the region deserves time too, from the pink cliffs of the Rose Valley to the carved stone lanes of Ürgüp.

We are a photography guide, not a studio in Cappadocia. We check which photographers we work with there are available and reply by email, usually within two working days.

How it works

Three simple steps

1Tell us when you are in CappadociaSend your dates, where you are staying and whether you want a sunrise balloon session, a sunset walk or both.
2Get a photographer suggestionWe email you a photographer we work with who is free. Ask them for a complete gallery from an ordinary morning.
3Confirm the details in writingAgree length, locations, transport, edited images and what happens if balloons do not fly.

Timing

When to plan it

A balloon-morning shoot means an early pickup, in position before first light. Balloons are flown by licensed operators only when the aviation authority allows it, and windy mornings are cancelled, sometimes several in a row. Book the first morning of your stay and keep another free. Sunrise moves through the year, so the pickup time is confirmed nearer the date.

A sunrise without balloons is still worth it: soft light and empty valleys. If you would rather not set an alarm on honeymoon, the last hour before sunset is a gentler option.

Good to know

  • Choose colours that stand out against pale rock, such as deep red, emerald or cobalt; long flowing dresses work especially well.
  • Coordinate rather than match: one bold colour and one neutral usually looks better than identical outfits.
  • Bring flat shoes for walking between spots and a warm layer for the minutes between photos.
  • Ask your photographer whether they ever add balloons in editing, and decide if you are comfortable with that.
  • If you want horses or a classic car as props, ask who arranges them, and make sure animals are treated well.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you guarantee balloons in our photos?

No one can. Flights depend on the weather. A back-up morning gives you the best chance, and the landscape works either way.

Can we have photos on our hotel's rooftop terrace?

Often, if you are guests, but some hotels restrict or charge for professional shoots. Check before you book the room.

Is the balloon flight included?

No. Flights are run by licensed operators and booked separately. Most sessions photograph the balloons from the ground.

Does the request cost anything?

No, the request form is free and with no obligation. You agree terms only with the photographer, once you decide.

We are not used to being photographed. Will it feel awkward?

Most couples feel that way at first. Simple directions and walking together usually ease it within minutes.
