Couples, anniversaries, honeymoons

Couple photos in Istanbul, from Balat to the Bosphorus

On honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary or simply travelling together, a relaxed walk with a photographer is one of the nicest ways to remember Istanbul. Tell us your date and we will find someone for you.

Most couple sessions in Istanbul are walks rather than posed shoots. You meet in one neighbourhood and pass through two or three settings over an hour or two. The city does a lot of the work: painted wooden houses, steep stairways, ferries crossing between Europe and Asia and the light bouncing off the water.

If you feel awkward in front of a camera, you are in good company. A good couple photographer gives simple prompts, such as walk towards me or look at each other, and lets the rest happen. We are a photography guide rather than an Istanbul studio, and we pass your request to a photographer we work with in the city who is free on your date.

How it works

Three simple steps

1Tell us about you twoIn the request form, add your date, the occasion and any neighbourhoods you like. A line about your style, playful or quiet and elegant, helps us choose.
2Get a reply by emailWe check which photographers we work with in Istanbul are free and reply, usually within two working days, with a name and how to reach them.
3Plan your routeAgree the meeting point, start time, number of edited photos and what happens if it rains. Then turn up in comfortable shoes and enjoy the walk.

Timing

When to plan it

For Galata and Balat, the best advice is an early start. The lanes are close to empty, cafés are just opening and you can stop anywhere without a crowd behind you, while popular spots fill up from late morning. Otherwise, the last two hours before sunset suit Karaköy and the Bosphorus shore.

Spring brings tulips and mild days, and autumn turns the trees along the Bosphorus yellow and red under softer, lower light, with fewer visitors around. Summer is busy and humid, so evening sessions work best. Winter is quiet, and wet cobblestones and street lamps photograph beautifully if you do not mind coats in the pictures.

Good to know

  • Coordinate rather than match: two or three colours that sit well together.
  • Wear flat shoes for walking between spots, and change for a few photos if you like.
  • Book early in your trip, so a rainy day can be moved.
  • Bring a light layer, as the wind off the Bosphorus can be cool even in spring.
  • Mention rings or anniversary details you would like photographed.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do we need any posing experience?

No. Most couples have never had a professional session before. The photographer guides you with simple prompts, and many of the best frames happen in between.

How long is a typical couple session?

One to two hours is common, enough for one neighbourhood and the waterfront at an unhurried pace. Crossing to the Asian side for Kuzguncuk takes extra time, so plan longer if you want both.

Can we include a mosque in our photos?

Yes, from outside and in courtyards, as long as you dress modestly and the session respects worshippers and prayer times. Professional photography inside some managed sites may need permission, and the photographer will advise.

Can I wear my wedding dress for a honeymoon session?

Of course. Mention it in your request, since a long dress is harder on steep stairs and slopes and the route can be planned around it.

Is sending a request binding?

No. The request form is free and with no obligation. You only book once you have agreed the details with the photographer.
