Cappadocia is one of the most popular places in Türkiye to propose. Pale valleys turn pink and gold in the early light, and on a good morning the sky fills with hot air balloons. It takes more planning than most places, though: the best moments come before dawn, the weather decides about the balloons, and your partner should suspect nothing.

A good proposal photographer chooses a spot with a clear line of sight, arrives early, blends in and catches the real reaction. We do not shoot in Cappadocia ourselves: we check which photographers we work with there are free on your date and reply by email, usually within two working days.

How it works

Three simple steps

1Send your date and ideaTell us your dates, roughly where you are staying and the proposal you have in mind, including whether the photographer should stay hidden.
2We reply with a photographerWe email you a photographer we work with in Cappadocia who is free. You agree the spot, signal and details directly with them.
3Plan the moment and a back-upAgree what happens if the morning is windy or cloudy, and keep a second morning free so the proposal can move without spoiling the surprise.

When to plan it

Most proposals here are planned for sunrise, when the balloons fly and the valleys are emptiest. Flights are run by licensed operators, depend on wind and weather, and can be cancelled on the morning itself. Nobody can promise balloons, so plan for your first morning and keep a later one as back-up. Sunrise shifts a lot through the year; your photographer will confirm the time nearer the date.

If a dawn alarm would give the game away, propose at sunset instead: the light is just as warm. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; winter brings fewer people but more cancelled flights.

Good to know

  • Find a reason for the early start that your partner will believe, such as watching the balloons together.
  • Keep the ring somewhere you can reach easily but that does not show in photos, like an inside jacket pocket.
  • Wear proper shoes for the sandy, uneven paths and bring a warm layer, since dawn is cold even in summer.
  • Agree a simple signal with your photographer and share a photo of your partner so they can recognise you.
  • Drones need permission in Türkiye, so check before planning one into the surprise.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can the photographer stay hidden until I propose?

Yes, that is the usual approach. The photographer arrives first, waits at a distance as if photographing the landscape, and moves closer once your partner has answered.

What happens if the balloons do not fly on the morning?

Flights are sometimes cancelled or postponed. Go ahead with the sunrise landscape, or move to your back-up morning; agree which in advance.

Do you organise the balloon flight too?

No. Flights are run by licensed operators and booked separately. Your photographer can advise where to watch them from the ground.

How far ahead should I send a request?

As early as you can, especially for spring and autumn. The form is free and with no obligation, so send it before every detail is settled.

Can we carry on with a couple shoot after the proposal?

Many people do. A short session afterwards gives you relaxed portraits as well as the moment itself, so mention it in your request.
