Couples marry in Istanbul for family roots, a shared love of the city or simply the setting. Some hold a full celebration, others an intimate ceremony or an elopement, and many add a session before or after the wedding to enjoy the landmarks without the pressure of the day. Each needs a photographer who understands how the city moves.

photographers.com.tr is an editorial guide to photography in Türkiye. We do not have our own wedding team in Istanbul. We pass your request to photographers we work with in the city and reply by email, usually within two working days. Coverage, timings and the contract are agreed directly with the photographer.

How it works

Three simple steps

1Share your wedding planIn the request form, give the date, the type of celebration, roughly how many guests and the ceremony location if you know it.
2Receive a suggestionWe check availability with photographers we work with in Istanbul and email you. Ask them for one or two complete wedding galleries, not just highlights.
3Agree the details in writingConfirm hours of coverage, the route between locations, delivery time, a rain plan, deposit and cancellation terms, and how your images may be used.

Timing

When to plan it

Be realistic about Istanbul traffic: moving between the historic peninsula, the Bosphorus and the Asian side takes far longer than the map suggests. Many couples choose one area for the day itself and keep Sultanahmet or Galata for a separate early session, before the late-morning crowds arrive.

Spring and autumn are the most popular seasons: mild temperatures, tulips in April and warm, low light in autumn. Summer gives long evenings on the water but is hot for formal clothes at midday. Winter weddings are quieter, with city lights and the occasional snowfall, but need a solid rain plan.

Good to know

  • Send your request early for spring and autumn weekends, the busiest dates.
  • Keep flat shoes in the car for walking between locations.
  • Choose one area for wedding-day portraits and leave the rest for another day.
  • Pack a modest cover-up for mosque courtyards.
  • Share a written timeline so the photographer knows every move.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can we have photos inside Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque or a palace?

A bridal session inside a prayer hall is not appropriate, and shoots around mosques must respect worshippers. Palaces and museums generally need permission for professional photography, so the photographer will advise.

Do you help with elopements and small weddings?

Yes, many requests are for intimate ceremonies. Tell us how many people will be there and we will suggest someone who suits that scale.

Can we have drone footage?

Drone flights in Türkiye require registration and permission, and the historic peninsula is heavily restricted. Plan without one unless the photographer confirms it is possible.

Is a pre-wedding session worth it?

If you want landmark photos without rushing, yes. A relaxed sunrise hour usually beats a stop squeezed between ceremony and reception.

What happens after we send the form?

The request form is free and with no obligation. We reply by email, usually within two working days, and you decide whether to book with the photographer we suggest.
