Photographers in Kemer: Locations, Light & Portfolio Tips

Kemer sits on a narrow strip between the Beydağları mountains and the Mediterranean, about an hour’s drive south-west of Antalya. That geography decides almost everything about a photoshoot here: pine forest runs down to pebble beaches, the peaks rise directly behind the town, and the coast looks east across the Gulf of Antalya. This guide covers where sessions usually take place, how the light behaves, and what to check before you book a photographer.

How the light works on this coast

Because the shoreline faces east, the sun rises over the sea and sets behind the mountains. Two things follow from that. Sunrise is the strongest time for beach pictures, with warm low light on the water and almost empty shores. In the evening the beaches fall into shade well before the official sunset time, so a “sunset session” in Kemer really means soft, even light rather than a sun dropping into the sea. Ask your photographer what time the sun actually leaves the spot you have chosen; it is often an hour or more earlier than you expect.

Summer is hot and humid, and midday light is hard. From June to September, plan for early morning or the last two hours of usable light. April, May, October and early November are more comfortable, and the mountains may still carry snow in spring, which adds a lot to wide shots.

Locations worth considering

Phaselis

The ancient city of Phaselis, a short drive south of Kemer, has three small harbours, the remains of an aqueduct and a paved main street, all set among pine trees. It is the most distinctive backdrop in the area for couples and families. It is also a ticketed archaeological site: casual photos are fine, but professional or commercial shoots at such sites in Türkiye generally need permission from the authorities, and wedding dress sessions are often treated as professional work. Confirm the current rules with your photographer before you plan around it.

Kemer marina and Moonlight Park

The marina gives you yachts, a breakwater and the mountains behind in one frame. Next to it, Moonlight (Ayışığı) Park and its beach offer trees, a curved bay and easy access, which makes them practical for families with small children or for a short session between other holiday plans.

Göynük Canyon

North of the town, Göynük Canyon has pale rock walls and blue-green water. It suits adventurous couples and travel portraits more than formal wear; the path is uneven and parts involve wading.

Tahtalı and the Olympos coast

The cable car up Mount Tahtalı takes you to a summit above 2,300 metres with a view down the whole coastline. It is much colder and windier at the top than at sea level, so bring a layer even in July. Further south, Çıralı beach and the ruins at Olympos are possible for a half-day trip, though travel time needs to be built into the session.

Which sessions suit Kemer

  • Family holiday photos: hotel gardens and the beach at sunrise, before the heat and the sunbeds fill.
  • Couple and honeymoon sessions: forest and sea combinations around Phaselis or the quieter coves.
  • Wedding and post-wedding shoots: many take place in resort grounds; check whether your hotel allows an outside photographer.
  • Travel portraits: the canyon, the marina and the mountain work well for a relaxed, documentary style.

Reading a portfolio properly

A handful of highlight images tells you little. Ask for one or two complete galleries from sessions shot in or near Kemer, ideally at the same time of day you are planning. Look at how the photographer handles strong contrast between bright sea and shaded forest, whether skin tones stay natural, and whether the less dramatic frames are still well composed.

Before paying a deposit, get these points in writing:

  • session length, number of locations and how many edited images you receive
  • delivery time and format
  • who covers transport, parking and any site entrance or cable car tickets
  • what happens in bad weather or if you need to reschedule
  • who arranges permissions for ticketed sites, and for drone footage, which requires registration and flight permission in Türkiye

Many photographers working in Kemer are based in Antalya, so ask whether a travel fee applies.
