Eğirdir is a small town in Isparta province, built on a narrow strip of land that reaches out into one of Türkiye’s largest freshwater lakes. Mountains rise steeply behind it, and the water in front changes colour through the day, from pale silver at dawn to turquoise and deep blue. It is a calm, unhurried place, and that mood carries into the photographs taken there.

Lake, island and town: where to shoot

Yeşilada and the causeway

A causeway leads from the town to two small islands, Canada and Yeşilada. Yeşilada has old stone-and-timber houses, a small harbour with fishing boats, family-run guesthouses and a shoreline path you can walk around in a short time. Water is visible from almost everywhere, so it is easy to place the lake and the mountains behind your subject. The causeway itself, with water on both sides, is a good spot at sunrise and sunset.

The old town centre

Near the start of the peninsula are the remains of the castle walls and two Seljuk-era monuments: the Hızır Bey Mosque and the Dündar Bey Medrese, with its finely carved stone portal. The minaret here stands above an archway that you can walk through, an unusual detail that photographs well. These add an architectural element to a session that would otherwise be all landscape.

Viewpoints above the lake

The hillside village of Akpınar, reached by a winding road above the town, looks straight down on the peninsula and the islands. This is where the famous bird’s-eye picture of Eğirdir is taken. It is a strong location for couple portraits with the whole lake spread out below, best in the late afternoon when the water has the most colour.

Beaches and shoreline

The lake has several beaches near the town, with shallow, clear water and pale sand or pebbles. They are quieter than any sea coast and work well for family sessions in summer.

Light and seasons

Eğirdir sits at a considerable altitude, so the air is clear and nights are cool even in summer. Mornings are often still, giving mirror-like reflections; wind tends to pick up in the afternoon and roughen the water. If you want glassy reflections, plan for early morning.

  • Spring: the apple orchards around the lake blossom, and the mountains may still carry snow.
  • Early summer: Isparta province is known for its rose harvest and, a little later, its lavender fields. Both are elsewhere in the province, not in Eğirdir itself, but can be combined with a lake session if you have a car.
  • Autumn: orchards are heavy with apples, the light is warm and the town is very quiet.
  • Winter: cold, with snow on the peaks and sometimes in town. The nearby Davraz ski area is an option for snow portraits.

Which sessions suit Eğirdir

The setting favours quiet, natural photography: couple and engagement portraits by the water, family photos on the island, and travel portraits for hikers and cyclists passing through. Wedding portraits work well on the causeway and at the viewpoint. Those looking for grand architecture or nightlife scenes will find the town too small; the lake is the star.

Practical tips

  • Bring a layer for early morning and evening, when the breeze off the water is cool.
  • White, cream and warm tones stand out against the blue of the lake; blue clothing tends to blend in.
  • The road to the viewpoint is steep and narrow. Allow time and go with a confident driver.
  • Drones show the peninsula at its best, but flights in Türkiye require registration and permission. Check that your photographer is authorised.

Finding and booking a photographer

Eğirdir is a small town, so you may be choosing among photographers based in Isparta city, a short drive away, or in Antalya, which is considerably further. Ask where the photographer will travel from and whether that affects the fee. Look at full galleries, ideally including landscape-heavy sessions, because balancing people against a very bright lake is not easy. Agree the session length, number of edited photos, delivery time and weather policy in a written contract. When comparing packages, look at what is actually included instead of the headline figure alone: the number of locations, travel and editing all make a difference to value.

Take a look at our photographer directory to see who is available, and if you photograph in the Isparta region, add a free listing. You can also explore more Türkiye photography guides.
